just saw this email at the AUGPhil ML any reactions ??? ------------------------ Dear Friends, I'm asking all on this mail list for some help. Please view the thread below. In a nutshell, apparently there were some disparaging remarks made against Filipino medical professionals on last night's TV episode of Desperate Housewives. (see the remark below). I'm asking all those who believe this situation needs a formal apology from the ABC TV network and must not be left undone. Let's all please flood Larry King's Web site with complaints to be certain he acts on this matter and takes issue with the problem. ted > From: Ted Padova > Date: October 2, 2007 8:53:16 AM GMT+08:00 > To: mindanaobloggers@googlegroups.com > Subject: [Min.Bloggers] Re: Philippines vs Desperate Housewives > Reply-To: mindanaobloggers@googlegroups.com > > I am a foreigner from the USA living here in Davao City and I am in total disbelief of the lack of sensitivity of the ABC network, it's producers, and performers. Something must be done about this immediately. > > I think one of the best sources to inform is Larry King. He has a regular TV show and he has a Web site with easy access to offer comments. I urge all to write a post on Mr. King's web site. You'll find him at: http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5.html?12 > > What's nice about his site is you won't need a log on password. You can add your comment immediately. > > I just posted my comment as shown below: > > ___________ > > Dear Mr. King, > > I am an American citizen living in the Philippines and want to alert you to a situation that I think would be newsworthy for your broadcast. > > This issue is related to the most recent broadcast of ABC's TV episode of Desperate Housewives. Apparently Teri Hatcher's character last night was quoted as saying something to her OB character that she hopes "he's not a graduate of some Philippine Med School." > > Upon hearing this remark, a good many people in the Philippines are outraged. I dare say that ABC wouldn't let the character say "I hope he didn't graduate from a black or Hispanic college." Yet apparently ABC finds no problem casting aspersions on the Filipino people. > > The reality of medicine as it relates to the Philippines is that the Philipppines is the largest supplier of nurses to the USA from abroad. This year over 5,000 nurses went to work in the USA compared to the next largest supplier in China only providing 200 nurses. Each of the overseas workers need to pass tough medical qualifications tests and almost all of them passed on the first testing. A great testiment to the many fine universities in this country. > > The Filipino people are among the most educated in areas of mdicine and technology. Manila is the most popular medical site for all Asian countires. And people fly to Manila for the most complicated medical conditions from all over Asia. They are not going to Japan, Korea, or Thailand becuase the best in this area of the world is in the Philippines. > > As an American living in a country with some of the most decent and kindest people worldwide, I am outraged by Ms. Hatcher's comments and ABC's total lack of sensitivity. > > I dearly hope you run a special on this issue and invite some of the many well trained medical professionals in the USA who are Filipino citizens working abroad. > > A small measure of your intervention in this issue will go a long way in helping ease the outrage and pain experienced by people in this wonderful country. > > Kindly yours, > > ted padova > > ___________ >> >> Hello all, >> >> I thought it might be good to share this here, if you haven't heard it yet. >> >> If it's not true, good. >> >> It it's true, good luck to Teri Hatcher I hope she doesn't need to go to the hospital anytime soon. =) >> >> >> Thanks, >> >> Maying >> >> >> -----Original Message----- >> >> Dear fellow Pinoy Moms: >> >> Last night, Desperate Housewives, in their season premiere insulted the Philippine doctors.
